Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa state has inaugurated political mobilisation committees at state, local government, and ward levels as part of efforts to strengthen party cohesion and boost grassroots engagement ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The decision was reached at the end of a high-level meeting held at Government House, Dutse, which brought together key political appointees and elected officials across the state.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Namadi said the initiative is designed to consolidate the party’s strength and sustain unity across all levels.
According to him, the committees would engage party members statewide to ensure cohesion and reinforce confidence in government activities.
The governor explained that while the party remains stable, there is a need to reconnect with the grassroots through sustained dialogue and engagement.
He noted that the committees would also meet with aggrieved stakeholders, encourage inactive members to rejoin party activities, and foster inclusiveness within the political structure.
Those in attendance included the Deputy Governor, Speaker of the State House of Assembly, members of the State Executive Council, state lawmakers, local government chairmen, as well as advisers, assistants, and heads of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies.
As part of its structure, the state-level committee is chaired by the governor, with the state party chairman serving as co-chairman, alongside other top government officials and party leaders.
At the local government level, commissioners or advisers will chair the committees, working with council chairmen, lawmakers, and party executives, while ward-level committees will be led by special assistants or elected councillors.
Namadi further linked the move to early preparations for the 2027 elections, emphasizing the need for reconciliation, mobilisation, and sustained grassroots outreach.
He said the committees would focus on strengthening party stability, promoting continuous voter and membership registration, identifying challenges, and maintaining effective relationships across all tiers.
The governor expressed confidence that the initiative would deepen public trust and enhance political participation across the state.
