Jigawa Intensify Efforts Against Climate Change, Desertification, Challenges

In line with the Jigawa State Government’s commitment to environmental sustainability and climate resilience, the State Executive Council has approved the participation of the State Ministry of Environment and Climate Change in the Green Nigeria Challenge – Jigawa State Edition.

The initiative iwas aimed at promoting afforestation, combating desertification, enhancing biodiversity, and encouraging community participation in environmental conservation efforts across the state.

This was disclosed by the State Commissioner for Information, Home Affair’s, Youths and Sport’s, Hon. Sagir Musa shortly after the State Exco Meetings presided over by the state Governor Umar Namadi at Govt House Dutse.

Council noted that participation in the Green Nigeria Challenge will provide a strategic platform for the state to strengthen its climate action initiatives, restore degraded lands, and contribute to national and global environmental sustainability goals.

The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change is expected to collaborate with relevant stakeholders, including local communities, development partners, and civil society organizations, to ensure the successful implementation of the programme.

Similarly the State Executive Council Approves Additional Works for Supply of Digital Oxygen and Cryo Oxygen Plant Project in Dutse

• The Council has approved additional works for the ongoing Cryogenic Oxygen Plant project located in Dutse, as part of efforts to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and ensure the availability of critical medical resources across the state.

The approved additional works cover the supply of Digital Oxygen and Nitrogen Cylinders, as well as Electric Vehicles to support the efficient operation and distribution capacity of the facility.

The Council approved the sum of (₦1,222,945,203.58) only for the execution of the additional components.

Following this approval, with initial contract sum of (₦2,202,161,079.93) only.

The total contract sum for the project now stands at (₦3,425,160,283.51K) only.

This development reflects the State Ministry of Health commitment to enhancing healthcare delivery systems, improving emergency response capacity, and ensuring sustainable medical oxygen supply for hospitals and health facilities across Jigawa State. Thre State Executive Council Approves Disbursement of BHCPF Funds and Payment of Allowances for Health Workers

• The Council approved the disbursement of (₦362,800,000.00) only as Direct Facility Financing (DFF) for a period of six (6) months, covering July to December 2025.

The funds will be disbursed to 281 accredited Primary Health Care (PHC) facilities across the 27 Local Government Areas of the state, following the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) release of the fund to the State Government for 3 & 4 Quarters of the year 2025.

This intervention is aimed at enhancing the operational capacity of PHC facilities, improving access to quality healthcare services, and ensuring the availability of essential medical supplies at the grassroots level under the Third and Fourth Quarter 2025 Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF) to strengthen primary healthcare service delivery across the state.

In a related development, the Council also approved the sum of (₦56,670,000.00) only for the payment of monthly allowances to frontline health personnel.

The beneficiaries include 75 Midwives, 650 Community Health Influencers, Promoters and Services (CHIPS) Agents, and 130 Community Engagement Focal Persons (CEFFPs).

The allowance payments will cover a period of six (6) months, corresponding to the third and fourth quarters of 2025, in recognition of the vital role these personnel play in community health mobilization, maternal and child healthcare, and public health awareness as presented by the Ministry of Health aimed to strengthening the healthcare system and ensuring that quality, affordable healthcare services are accessible to all citizens across Jigawa State.

As well as the sum of (N57,444,558.62K) only for operations of the funds at the state level according to the approved workplan.

State Executive Council Approves Review of Cost and Scope Adjustment for Solar Mini-Grid Projects

• The Council has approved the review of cost and scope adjustment for Solar Mini-Grid Projects at State Secretariat Complex, the State Judiciary Building, and the State House of Assembly Complex from the initial sum of Six Billion, Eighty-Four Million, Seven Hundred and Seventy-Five Thousand, Four Hundred and Thirty-Three Naira, Seventy-Five Kobo (₦6,084,775,433.75K) only to a new total of Seven Billion, Four Hundred and Sixty-One Million, Two Hundred and Forty-Six Thousand, Five Hundred and Seventy-Seven Naira, Thirteen Kobo (₦7,461,246,577.13) only.

The approval reflects a critical enhancement in the project scope, capacity, and overall infrastructure requirements.

The Solar Mini-Grid Projects are designed to deliver sustainable and reliable energy solutions, with an upgraded capacity of 3MWp and 4.5MWh battery storage systems.

The implementation of the upgrade project is expected to significantly improve power reliability in key government facilities, similarly boosting productivity and operational efficiency across the State Government’s ensuring improved energy efficiency, reduced dependence on conventional power sources, and the adoption of environmentally sustainable solutions within public institutions as presented by Ministry of Power and Energy.
