A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara State, Dr Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi has said that Gov. Dauda Lawal’s defection to the party will address disunity and instability in the party and the state.
Shinkafi stated this at the APC stakeholders meeting in Gusau on Wednesday.
The meeting organized by a political group in the state ‘Wamban Shinkafi Democratic Front’ was attended by major APC stakeholders, youths and women groups of the party from the 14 LGAs of the state.
During the meeting APC stakeholders in the state under Shinkafi’s political movement endorsed Gov Lawal and President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in the 2027 general elections.
Shinkafi a former governorship candidate of the state under platform of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) in 2019 noted that Lawal’s defection to APC will bring more opportunities for development to the state.
He noted that the governor as the leader of the APC in the state now will address various challenges of disunity and instability in the party.
He described the governor’s decision to join the APC as a great achievement that would ensure unity in the party and overall victory in the 2027 general elections.
“Defection of Gov Dauda Lawal to the APC is the beginning of a new era for Zamfara politics ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“This meeting is formally to welcome Gov Lawal into the APC fold.
“I believe Lawal’s defection to APC would attract more projects and improve security and economic development of Zamfara,” Shinkafi explained
According to him, “our meeting today is historic, just to appreciate Gov Lawal’s defection to our party”.
“This is the beginning of the new era in Zamfara ahead of 2027,” he added.
Shinkafi called on unity and patriotism among members and major stakeholders of the party in the state.
“As we gathered here today, we all belong to the same party, I am therefore urging both old and new members to close ranks.
“We have to work together for the progress of our party and general development of our dear state.
“The defection of Gov Lawal in to the APC would lead to the success of the party in the 2027 general elections”, he said.
He called on party members to remain united for the success of the party and the progress of the state.
“I think the personal interest should not override collective interest.”
“We endorse Gov Lawal for second term over his performance as governor of the state within three years which led to various positive transformation across education, health, agriculture, rural department and infrastructure” he further said.
He also recorded tremendous achievements in sectors like security, civil service, roads network, water resources, youth empowerment among others,” he stated.
“As we gathered here today, we also endorsed President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.
“I urge all our supporters to vote for Tinubu for second term to enable his administration to continue providing more dividends of democracy to Nigerians”, Shinkafi said.
