Kaduna Moves To Grade Hotels, Trains Assessors,  Inspectors

The Kaduna State Ministry of Business, Innovation  and Technology has concluded a four-day workshop for assessors and inspectors of Hotel Grading and Classification.

The training, held at Pyramid Hotel from April 27 to 30 2026, is aimed at boosting tourism in the state.

At the training, participants were told that they must carry out their task  successfully  so that other states can emulate Kaduna State.

They were informed that Kaduna State will be a pioneer so that means if they  get it right,  all hotels in the state will be  classified.

One of the resource persons, Chairman International Nanet Group, Ini Akpabio   said that the training is   to ensure that all the hotels in  in the state are graded.

“Many things in life are graded. You know if you go to school you go to primary school, t’s a grade if you enter secondary school, it is another grade.

“So that if you see two persons and one has  SSCE, you call it, and the other one has a PhD, you know immediately, academically, they are not the same grade. Is that understood?  And so, that is in a simple form what we are trying to do for hotels.

“So that when you enter a hotel, you know whether it is like Hilton Hotel in Abuja or whether it’s like a small local village hotel. And so, that’s the whole essence of grading,” he said.

Akpabio said that the participants need to know what qualifies each hotel to be graded into the status they are.

“Let us know who you are academically, what the hotel is in terms of the style of the hotel.

“What is your status? To do that, there are many processes. If you go to school to study to be PhD, the process is that you go to primary school, secondary school, University of Polytechnic, get a first degree, get a second degree.

“That’s it, first thing.or you have a Ph.D. degree so there is a process and during that process, people are helping you, training you, guiding you, assessing you. The same goes for the hotel.

“If you want to be a five-star hotel, it is the job of all of you in this room to go and inspect the hotel, assess the hotel before you give it that rating,” he said.

He added that the training is to,  “equip inspectors and assessors with the knowledge, practical skills, and professional competencies required to objectively evaluate core and grade hotels in line with hotel classification standards.”
