Ahead of the 2027 general election, a philanthropist, Honourable Matthew Moses popularly known as Dr. Matt has assured that if he emerges member representing Chikun Constituency in the Kaduna State House Of Assembly under the NDC party, it would be all round blessings for his constituents.
He made the promise at a special dinner held in his honour at the Neat Place in Kaduna on Tuesday.
“We deserve better. We deserve a community where hard work is met with opportunity, and where every citizen can sleep at night knowing their home, their neighborhood, and their future are safe.
“My vision for our Local Government is centered on three core pillars: Power, Economic Revitalization, Community Safety, and Infrastructure for Growth,” he said.
On power, he described it as the first trigger for development, adding, “I am committed to
ensuring that we get as many power plants (Transformers) for people in Chikun, which will help businesses to thrive and also encourage investors to the area. I will invest in it.”
While welcoming guests to his declaration of intention to represent the good people of Chikun Local Government in the Kaduna State House of Assembly, he said it was historic.
“No words of appreciation can convey my joy at seeing all of you here for my sake, and hopefully we will remember this day for the effect it will have on Chikun Local
Government.
“I am running for office because I believe that the defining measure of our community’s success is not just how we are doing today, but the strength of the foundation we are building for tomorrow. Right now, that foundation is cracking.
“Too many of our neighbors are struggling to find steady work, and too many families feel that the sense of security we once took for granted is slipping away,” he said
According to him, as part of his strategies, economic revitalization will be one of his top priorities.
“We cannot wait for prosperity to find us; we must create the conditions that make this district a magnet for investment.
“I will push for tax credits and grants specifically designed for small and medium-sized local businesses, and for external companies that commit to hiring locally.
“I will bridge the gap between our workforce and the modern economy by partnering with local trade schools and colleges to provide certification programs in high-demand fields like technology, green energy, and advanced manufacturing.
“I will advocate for the creation of a municipal incubator space where local entrepreneurs can access affordable office space,
mentorship, and administrative support to launch their ideas,” he assured.
On restoring security in Chikun, he described Safety as a fundamental right.
“Economic development cannot take root in a place where people do not feel safe.
“Safety is a fundamental right, and it is the prerequisite for all other forms of progress,” he stressed.
He therefore, said that community-based policing will be encouraged.
“I will promote a model of policing that emphasizes trust and transparency-ensuring our officers are integrated into the
neighborhoods they serve, rather than isolated from them,” he stressed.
Hon. Matt also explained the importance of youth engagement programmes to end restiveness
“Security begins with prevention. I will champion after-school programmes, youth mentorship, and summer job initiatives to provide our young people with positive outlets and clear pathways to adulthood,” he said.
On the importance of revitalizing commercial corridors, he said that they will invest in the aesthetic and functional improvement of main streets-better lighting, improved walkability, and
revitalized storefronts-to make the local government area a place where people want to spend their time and money.
On his commitment to constituents, Hon. Matt said with their support, a lot will be achieved through collective shared responsibilities.
“I am not here to offer empty promises or partisan talking points. I am here to offer a pragmatic, results-oriented partnership. I know that the challenges we face were not created overnight, and they will not be solved by a single individual
alone, but they require a representative who listens, who works across party lines, and
who understands that the only agenda that matters is yours.
“This is your Chikun. Together, we will turn the page on stagnation and write a new chapter of economic vitality and lasting security.
“Join me in building a future where our families can thrive and our community can finally reach its full potentials”. He declared.
