Dollar-Naira Rate: Naira Opens Week at N1,326.84/$ Officially

The Nigerian naira opened the new week relatively stable against the United States dollar, with the official exchange rate remaining below the parallel-market rate.

At the Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market (NFEM), the dollar was quoted at ₦1,326.84 on Monday, September 14, 2026, according to available market data.

In the parallel market, the dollar was being bought at about ₦1,380 and sold for ₦1,390.

The figures put the difference between the official NFEM rate and the parallel-market selling rate at approximately ₦63.16 per dollar.

At the parallel-market selling rate, $100 would cost about ₦139,000, while $1,000 would require approximately ₦1.39 million. Anyone selling $100 at the buying rate of ₦1,380 would receive about ₦138,000.

The naira’s recent stability has been linked to improved dollar liquidity and ongoing efforts by the Central Bank of Nigeria to stabilise the foreign exchange market.

Recent NFEM trading has kept the official rate within the ₦1,320–₦1,330 range, while the parallel market has remained around ₦1,390.

The two rates differ because they operate through separate market mechanisms. The NFEM rate is determined through transactions in the regulated foreign exchange market, while parallel-market rates are largely driven by demand and supply among informal dealers and Bureau de Change operators.

Market watchers are expected to monitor foreign exchange liquidity, crude oil earnings, external reserves, diaspora remittances, investor inflows and monetary policy decisions for their potential impact on the naira this week.

Attention will also remain on NFEM trading to determine whether the naira can sustain its recent stability against the dollar.
