NASS Gives States 30 Days to Review Constitutional Amendment Proposals

The National Assembly has reportedly given state Houses of Assembly 30 days to review and act on proposed constitutional amendments.

The move comes as lawmakers continue efforts to advance changes to Nigeria’s constitutional framework ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The proposed amendments are expected to cover issues relating to Nigeria’s political and governance structure, with state legislatures required to consider the proposals within the stipulated period.

The response of the state Houses of Assembly will determine the next stage of the constitutional amendment process.
