Iranian authorities have executed a man accused of providing information about Iranian missile sites to Israeli intelligence, the country’s judiciary announced on Saturday.
The man, identified as Hossein Pedaran, was accused of supplying Israel’s Mossad with information about missile sites in Isfahan Province, central Iran.
Iran’s judiciary said Pedaran was convicted of “espionage and intelligence collaboration” on behalf of Israel and that his death sentence was upheld by the Supreme Court.
“The death penalty was carried out against Hossein Pedaran, who had provided the Mossad with information on missile sites in Isfahan province,” the judiciary said.
Authorities did not disclose when Pedaran was arrested or tried. The case had also not previously been reported by Iranian media.
The execution comes amid an increase in arrests and executions in Iran linked to the ongoing Middle East conflict and nationwide protests earlier this year.
Isfahan, which hosts several Iranian nuclear facilities, has been among the areas heavily affected by the conflict, with several missile sites reportedly targeted.
In August, Iranian authorities announced the execution of two other men accused of transmitting the coordinates of sensitive military and security installations to Israel.
Rights groups say Iran records one of the highest numbers of executions globally, ranking second after China.
