Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) has warned that it will deploy new weapons and target previously untouched locations if the United States launches further attacks against Iran.
A spokesman for the Guards issued the warning on Monday, saying Iran’s response to any fresh US military action would involve significant changes to its defensive and counteroffensive operations.
“There will certainly be significant changes in our defence and our counteroffensive,” the spokesman said.
He added that Iran would introduce weapons with new capabilities and warned that its future targets would not necessarily be the same locations attacked previously.
“Our targets will not necessarily be the same as before either. We have new targets that have not yet been attacked,” he said.
The IRGC also said it was prepared for a prolonged conflict with the United States.
The warning comes amid heightened tensions between Washington and Tehran, with Iran’s military claiming on Saturday that the US was planning new action against the country. Iranian state television reported the claim but provided no further details.
Fighting between the two countries has reportedly eased in recent days following renewed hostilities at the end of last month.
However, tensions remain high around the Strait of Hormuz, where Iran has continued sporadic attacks on commercial shipping while both sides maintain rival blockades in an attempt to exert pressure.
The conflict has also extended into Yemen, where the Iran-backed Houthi movement has reportedly expanded its territorial control against the Saudi-backed government and launched attacks on Saudi targets, including the capital, Riyadh.
The latest warning from Iran’s Revolutionary Guards further underscores the continuing risk of renewed military escalation between Tehran and Washington.
