The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said the ongoing infrastructure projects across the territory will serve as a major campaign tool for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Wike said delivering projects that directly improve residents’ lives would help the government earn public trust and support.
The minister spoke during an inspection of ongoing road projects in Kuje, Abuja, where he said governance was fundamentally about improving the welfare of the people.
Wike said the enthusiasm shown by residents in communities benefiting from new roads demonstrated their appreciation of the projects being executed by the administration.
“When I first came to inspect this side of the road, I saw how densely populated it was and the state of the infrastructure. The contractor is doing very well, taking advantage of the dry season. For us, we will continue to support them to meet up with the project timeline,” he said.
He said the positive response from residents showed that the administration was addressing infrastructure challenges at the grassroots.
“You can imagine the enthusiasm and the happiness on the faces of the people. That is why I say the whole essence of governance is to make people happy,” Wike said.
He added that the impact of the projects would translate into electoral support for Tinubu and other candidates of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
“This is governance, and this is what people are expecting. This will translate into actual votes. Without this, you can’t get any votes, but with this, voters will not hesitate to cast their votes for Mr. President, Senator Philip Aduda, and the two House of Representatives members,” he said.
Wike also said executing projects that directly affect residents was, in his view, the most effective political strategy.
“The ‘rigging’ is the projects we are executing, doing the work and making the people happy. That is how we have secured their support,” he said.
The minister further disclosed that the APC was preparing its campaign machinery ahead of the 2027 elections.
He said he would soon inaugurate the campaign team for Tinubu in the FCT and personally lead the structure before returning to Rivers State to continue his political activities.
“For us, regarding Mr. President, we are putting all our machinery in place to fully kick-start. Very soon, I will inaugurate the campaign team for Mr. President in the FCT, which I will lead personally,” Wike said.
