The Zamfara State House of Assembly has passed a resolution supporting constitutional alterations aimed at facilitating the establishment of state police in the country.
The Speaker of the Assembly, Hon. Bilyaminu Ismail Moriki, disclosed this while briefing journalists in Gusau on the activities of the House.
Moriki said the establishment of state police would complement the efforts of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Dauda Lawal in addressing insecurity in the state and across the country.
He expressed optimism that the Zamfara State Government would provide the necessary framework and support required to ensure effective operation of state police if established.
The Speaker also clarified issues surrounding some lawmakers who were suspended from the Assembly, saying their suspension predated their purported defection from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Also speaking, House of Assembly Member representing Maru 2 Constituency Honorable Salisu Faru revealed that after due consultation with relevant stakeholders the House decided to pass the bill to ensure effective services to the good people of Zamfara especially in the provision of security to the agrarian areas.
Honorable Faru also lauded Governor Dauda Lawal for deliberate strategies geared towards ending insecurity in Zamfara State.
