The people of Akamanato Ifite Nteje convened a general meeting on January 3, 2025, to address the ongoing fraudulent sale of their ancestral lands. The meeting, attended by key stakeholders from both home and abroad, was a decisive moment in reaffirming the village’s stance against illegal land transactions and warning the public to steer clear of deceptive land dealings.

For generations, Akamanato has been a peaceful and resourceful village, contributing significantly to the progress of Nteje. However, in recent years, criminal elements have infiltrated the community, tarnishing its reputation through fraudulent land sales. These activities became particularly pronounced in 2017 when unscrupulous individuals, mostly young men, conspired with corrupt investors to sell communal farmlands illegally.

A key figure in this fraudulent scheme is Nnamdi Fabian Uwadiegwu Obi, who, with the support of influential backers, secured law enforcement protection for these illicit dealings. Another central player, one so called surveyor, allegedly lured many unsuspecting victims into the scam. Consequently, Akamanato land became a tool for defrauding millions of naira from victims who, despite clear warnings, continued to engage with the scammers.

The fraudulent land deals sparked tensions, leading to violence, destruction, and loss of lives. Those who resisted the illegal sales were met with brutal force, including police and military-backed assaults. Dissenters were attacked, exiled, or even killed. Elders who spoke against the fraudulent transactions faced public humiliation, physical abuse, and forced oaths of secrecy under duress. Houses were burned, properties worth millions destroyed, and many community members were forced into hiding.

Despite these oppressive tactics, the people of Akamanato refused to be silenced. Their resistance, though met with bloodshed, remained firm. The intention of the violence was clear: to suppress voices calling for due process and to force the community into submission. However, the villagers, armed with nothing but their unwavering principles, stood their ground.

At the meeting, Akamanato reaffirmed the Anambra State Government’s White Paper Report of November 2020, which nullifies all illegal land transactions within Ifite Nteje. The public is hereby warned that any purchases or transfers in violation of this directive are void and of no legal standing.

Furthermore, the so-called “Ifite Nteje Land Management Committee,” led by Erikeife Benjamin Ikechukwu, Okechukwu Ngosina, Nnamdi Fabian Obi, and others, has been indicted in connection with illegal land dealings. Any individuals engaging with them do so at their own risk.

The community categorically states that no land within Akamanato Ifite Nteje is for sale. Any claims to the contrary are fraudulent, and potential buyers should avoid dealings with unauthorized persons, proxies, or fraudulent syndicates.

Akamanato remains resolute in its commitment to recovering the stolen land. The village calls on victims to seek redress and recover their funds from the perpetrators. The community will not relent in its fight against oppression, injustice, and lawlessness.

The meeting was chaired by Mr. Kenneth Udefi and hosted in the remodeled Umu-Anugwa Community Hall (Uno-Ama), originally built and donated by Chief Jerry Nwakobi (Orimili Atata) and recently reconstructed by Engr. Chris Osita Nwakobi (Asika Ebili) and Chief Pius Nwedo (Nwakabie). The event commenced with prayers, followed by the breaking of kolanut by the eldest son of Akamanato, Mazi Uchefuna Ezinwa.

In his opening remarks, Mr. Udefi expressed deep gratitude to all attendees, particularly those who traveled great distances to be present. He conveyed appreciation from the United Brothers home and abroad for the sacrifices made by the community members.

Discussions centered on the challenges confronting Akamanato, solutions, and preventive measures for the future. The fraudulent sale of Ifite Nteje land was extensively deliberated, with speakers recounting the hardships endured at the hands of criminals and fraudulent estate developers.

Other key outcomes of the meeting included the extension of the tenure of Akamanato ward chairmen and officials, as well as a generous donation of one million naira from Prof. Oranye Philip Ozuah in support of the community’s efforts.

The people of Akamanato Ifite Nteje remain steadfast in their quest to reclaim their land and seek justice for the atrocities committed against them. The community calls on the Anambra State Government to enforce its directives, ensure justice prevails, and put an end to the reign of impunity that has plagued Ifite Nteje.

The fight is far from over, and Akamanato is prepared to do whatever it takes to restore order, dignity, and rightful ownership of their ancestral land
