The Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Alhaji Hannafi Yakubu, disclosed this while briefing journalists on the state’s preparedness strategy.

He explained that the intervention followed early warnings from the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), which projected severe flooding in parts of the state, while some areas may also experience dry spells.

According to him, the approval is aimed at strengthening the state’s capacity for rapid response and reducing the risk of loss of lives and property.

The SEMA boss added that government has also approved the renovation of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps to ensure they are fit to accommodate residents who may be displaced by flooding.

He further revealed that the 11 high-risk local government areas are currently under close monitoring, with relevant agencies already implementing preventive measures.

Yakubu said 11 trucks loaded with food and non-food relief materials have been positioned for immediate deployment in the event of flooding.

He urged residents, particularly those living in flood-prone areas, to clear blocked drainages, avoid building on waterways, and cooperate with emergency officials.

Yakubu stressed that proactive planning remains critical in addressing the growing threat of climate-related disasters and minimising their socio-economic impact.
